Brief

Colophon approached us to design a new digital platform for their rapidly growing type foundry. The goal was to expand the scope of the site from a catalogue to a creative tool and education platform, making Colophon the first port of call for any designer working with typography.

Solution

We designed from the ground up a new creative tool that allowed designers and non-designers the ability to customise Colophon typefaces to meet their needs. This required the development of a visual language inspired by Colophon’s beautiful catalogue of type specimens and optimised for a highly technical product. We iterated and refined the purchase journey through discovery, testing, customisation and licensing, making a complex process as simple as possible for technical and non-technical user groups. We empowered users through functionality focused on education and collaboration.
